Welcome Andy. About the Garrett 250? Ask garryames, he's our resident 250 expert. He's been finding some good stuff of late with his.

Thanks Paddy lol. Andy, I have an Ace 250, it's absolutely brilliant in fields but I have never fully tested it on the beach - apparently it can't cope with the wet sand.
I bought mine on Amazon UK for about 230 euros, I can't see any reason why a second hand one wouldn't be a good option - buyer beware of course.
Note that it has no volume control.
I can now tell by the sounds alone whether I have found foil or copper, the display is good too.
The Ace has a downside that some other detectors also struggle with - large, deep pieces of Iron.
Great starter machine for the price.

Well said garryjames. Andy, as a previous owner of a Garrett, I can concur 100% with GJ's review, an excellent machine. The volume control is easily overcome by getting a set of volume control phones. It is possible to get the proper headphones with the detector. And, if you think you're the only one digging foil, bottle tops and crusty rusty iron, you're not. Even the best machines can be fooled by them. The one thing to remember, there's a good coin down there and you'll get the "buzz" when you find your first. Enjoy and we look fwd to seeing your first finds.
