Wedding ring lost Sunday 13 August 2023 at Ballydavid/Baile na nGall pier, Dingle Peninsula, on beach/in water.
If anyone in West Kerry could keep an eye out for this, I’d be so grateful. I lost my wedding ring (usual sentimental value, compounded by the fact that it was my mother’s and my husband died last year) at the beach in Baile nan Gall/Ballydavid on Sunday 13 August 2023. It’s likely to have gone in the water; I swam from the middle of the beach to the end of the pier and back, with a bit of frolicking here and there.
I know that is definately is lost somewhere on the beach, or in the water (I swam from the centre of the beach to the end of the pier and back, parallel with the pier, and played around a bit in the shallower water). I was wearing it before swimming, and didn't have it after. I walked to the grass at the top of the beach with my son's wetsuit and put it on the grass, and other than that I was in the sea; I noticed that it was gone the minute I left the sea.
A sweep with a metal detector at low tide might find something. The ring is gold, fairly thick band (3-4mm).
I don’t see any rental in the Dingle area, otherwise I’d ask a friend who is still down there for another week or so (I’m based in Cork, and a bit encumbered flying solo with small children).
And this is an outside chance, but are underwater metal detectors a common thing or rentable? The deeper water (likely 8-10 feet or less at low tide) towards the end of the pier is weedy but is a likely place. I do know a few divers, but not based around that end of the country, but I’d love to see what the chances might be of paying someone to walk out and do a pass on it either visually or with a metal detector?
I'm unlikely to be able to come down to show the area, unfortunately, due to childcare issues, but do have friends who are in the area until the middle of next week, who were there when it was lost (24 August), and took a photo of the beach for reference.
Thanks so much in advance for reading and any interest, Clíona O’Carroll
