Hi all, New to the group and haven't had a MD since I was a child. Got stuck into Detectorists and couldn't get the buzz of the hobby out of my head so ordered myself an Equinox 600 from NI Minelab dealer (Thanks Colin!). Really excited to get my hands on the detector and bring the kids out with me with their Smyths 20 euro detectors too One question - I know the rules around using MDs near monuments is illegal but what about beaches (not near monuments etc)? I plan to just go out for a few hours a month with the kids and look for coins etc but no intention of looking for archeological artifacts with any meaning. Basically would be happy to find some euro in the sands! Anyone been using their MD on the beach over the years and had any issues? Coils to the soil! Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Sounds like you already did some homework. Most public beaches and some public parks are fine for metal detecting without a licence provided the appropriate tools are used and all holes are filled in. It would be wise to get advice from the forum members before detecting areas you are unsure about. Searching for archaeological objects is a big no no. Access to private land is by permission only without permission you would be trespassing and breaking the law. All land in Ireland belongs to somebody you cannot access it without permission.
If you have any specific questions we will do our best to try answer them for you... enjoy the hobby.
