Dear reader, a message from Italy,
If your passionate for the of metal detecting history like me, you may find it interesting.
Please excuse my English.
In 1937, during the examination of magnetic properties of metals, Dr. Friedrich Förster discovered the influence of the Earth's magnetic field on the measurement coil of test equipment. In 1948, the visionary founded his own company preforming multi award winning research.
The scientific basis of the electromagnetic test methods was developed in the 1950s.
Dr. Friedrich Förster received the Victor de Forest Award for this in 1957.
In 1963, the first magnetic field measuring equipment from Förster was installed in a satellite;
Mariner II used this to research the magnetic field of the planet Venus, among several other ‘Top Secret’ tasks.
Prof. Friedrich Förster received, among many other rewards, the highest distinction of NASA in 1992 for his work.
Starting in the 1970s, His son Martin Förster further expanded the success of the family company. He recognized the opportunities of globalization early and ensured a worldwide presence with the founding of subsidiaries.
With increasing threats of the cold war, and evolution of criminal and terroristic minds he developed a necessary device that would change criminal and forensic research forever (CSI):
A reliable and portable, magnetic search system (aka metal detector)
This at the time when criminal investigation mostly consisted of the illusive ‘Big brains with pipe and magnifying glass’; this was a giant leap forward in the battle for criminal justice.
Regretfully, circumstances of health demand I must start to think to offer a crown jewel of my collection to change loving owner:
The Förster METEX 4 ‘Metalsuchgerat’
Complete, fully functional with original manual including operating instructions as supplied to German law enforcement. With 3 coils, probes, connectors, headset/speaker, including the unique small details, as original test disks, cleaning cloth and batteries. All enclosed in a sturdy wooden case.
It is kept in an environment free of smoke, pests or other contaminants, to preserve this wonderful piece of forensic history.
Until now, I have found difficulties finding experts of this device for an appraisal.
And, for their own reasons, the Förster institute is hesitant to share information files or details of their special researches during the 1960/70’s;
I know only of one other of these in existence that is carefully hidden away in a closed safe.
I am looking for information of an expert for appraisal for auction and/or advice where I could best auction it.
Or a buyer that can make a honest, noncommercial, non-insulting offer...
More details, info and detailed photos are available on request because I am too ignorant to upload photos here,
Regards,
