My tale of woe, doubtless repetitive to your ears, is that I bought a spare car key, and it seemed logical to have it in a magnetic box underneath the car. That did make sense and I traveled many a km with the spare key box intact.
Then one fateful day I traveled to my uncle's farm - where the dirt track became more 3D than 2D, and so lost the box. I discovered that almost immediately it was gone because the terrain audibly scratched the bottom of the car but a manual search of the suspected area revealed nothing. I suspect it got kicked up into the verge with tall grass.
In summary - I am looking to rent a decent metal detector near Bantry Co.Cork. The car key is metal of course, but the box it is in contains neodymium magnets so hopefully that makes it easier. The value of the loss is about 100.00.
I can travel to Macroom and rent a metal detector but as to skilled use advice would be appreciated, or if indeed I could pay a local to borrow his equipment for a few hours that would be great.
If I ever build a track to my house... I won't skimp on having a real surface lol.
