Greetings all from Sligo .I have just joined the group and am trying to get involved in the field of metal detection. I was wondering what would be a good starter metal detector? Do you have meet ups?

Hi Welcome, We have group meetups to raise funds for charity now and then other than that lads arrange their own local meetups.
There are two key factors to consider when choosing a metal detector: where you’re going to hunt and what you want to spend. Keep in mind not all detectors are waterproof the control box on some of them will stop working if it gets wet so you may need to avoid water and even rain. Most cheaper detectors - are designed for all-purpose hunting. They are perfect for hunting jewellery, coins in parks, dry sand or fields. Lots of people starting off will buy one from the Garrett Ace range such as 150, 250, 300i, 400i Metal Detector depending on what you want to spend. As people progress and enjoy the hobby, they will want better detectors ones that are waterproof, work in water and on land. Then you have detectors that are much lighter than others and do not require batteries and just need a charge before use such as the xp deus and some that are heavier and need batteries on a regular basis. I guess we are spoilt with so much choice but then that is part of the fun of a great hobby with terrific benefits and an asset to the community.
