How's it going lads & lassies. Brand new to this (well doing a bit of messing around with my Dr. Otek since May or June). Loving the excitement of not knowing what's gonna turn up. Kind of like going fishing without having to worry about buying bait (or drowning.......unless you're beach detecting & you take your eye off the tide creeping around ye Have a couple of permissions under my belt too so happy with that. But feel the need to upgrade my device to get the full potential of what could be buried under my feet. My boy is only too delighted to take over my Otek if I do upgrade. Anyone here selling a good middle range detector or any tips on good devices?? Based in Bray by the way. I'm a poet & I don't even know it. Thanks in advance

Sounds like you are flying it with permissions and all, nice. I have used Nokta Macro Simplex for 2 and a bit years and its great durable and easy to use detector. Not great on wet sand though, but dry sand and pasture/ploughed fuelds its deadly. Found a lot of stuff for me. You should be able to pick one up around 300ish mark new and bit less 2nd hand. Its 100% waterproof so no need for extra protection for the box.Ya should get a few days detecting off a full charge.....roughly 4-5 days if using for 4 hours a day or so. But theres other machines available too, like the Quest series are meant to be real good and affordable, or minelab vanquish is afforsable too. Then it goes to more expensive machines around the 700-800 mark, Nokta Legend or Minelab Equinox, XP Deus. But yeah let us know how ya get on and which machine you choose!!

A few weeks ago myself & my boy headed off down to Brittas Bay thinking after the lovely long summer we've just had with thousands of people sun bathing emptying their pockets, there will be enough for an early retirement down there.........barely got the €4 parking paid! I'd say half the dectorist's in Ireland were there before me. Great craic though.

Cheers for the welcome & the brilliant tips Al. Yeah a sound lad I've been following on Youtube called Craig tipped me off with the Simplex + too so it's the one I'm focused on tbh! Where can I pick it up for around €300 though? Amazon had it for around the €400 mark but just checked it again this morning & it's gone for some reason (maybe sold out) By the way I'm absolutely buzzing from my short trip out yesterday......I was out on my permission for about 2 hours with nothing but trash & a few bits of brass in my bag, then just as I was about to head back to the car....bang, a Hammered Charles the 1st!! Nearly fell over. 1st Hammered I've found or even held. Happy as a pig in shite here Can you put up pic's on this forum by the way?

There are 2 packages available with the simplex, one that comes with bluetooth headphones and one without. I got the one without and just used wired earphones for a while! Its cheaper version ok!
