New to the hobby, I got a vanquish 540 for Christmas and am loving it. Found about €30 and a gold pendant(9ckt modern) on the beach down the road from me. The wife and kids think I'm cracked but it beats sitting in the house doing DIY, LOL.

Thanks lads. I'm really enjoying it, not sure what I'm doing at the moment. I guess I need to learn the numbers/tones that correspond to the targets.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Take a picture and put it up on the forum. We all love to see what everyone finds. Especially in these lockdown times when some of us would have to travel more than 5km to find somewhere to detect.

I'll put up some snaps tomorrow if I get a chance. loads of crusty/exploded 1c 2c and 5c pieces. I'm guessing they were in the ground too long. Some euros and a chicken penny, I keep seeing the Irish guys going on about chicken pennies and today I got my first so I guess I'm off the starting blocks and have been baptized LOL.

I'm in Wexford, The lads on youtube, Mental Detecting. It seems every vid they do it's 'ah it's a chicken penny, on to the next one'. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy their videos, it was them that got me interested in metal detecting. At the moment I'm just walking the beaches and digging holes. I'm not too sure of what I'm doing but sure it's a day out and that's half the fun.

We all start the same way I never found anything for the first 3 weeks. The real addiction kicks in when you find your first gold or silver and then it's on to the next one! Likely places for a search are where people enter the beach and leave the beach then the swimming areas and the line of black sand. Every day on the beach is a new day gale force winds and storms can change the beach from giving up nothing to giving up everything.
