Hi all,
Im hoping you might be able to help me with this. I lost my wedding ring on a beach in Cork on Monday evening. I was told a regular metal detector won’t work when i went to get one today.. Its made of platinum or palladium im not entirely sure, but it holds great sentimental value to me.
Is anyone able to help me out? I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks a million, Mark.

Hi Mark , Some metal detectors don't like wet sand , there is no issue with them picking up either of the metals your ring might be made of. Unfortunately I am in Dublin so cant be of more help there are a couple of Cork lads here so they might be available . if you have access to a metal detector give it a shot, anything is better than nothing (pipe and Cable detectors aside)
best of luck

Mark, sorry to hear of your wedding ring being lost. Don’t listen to negative stories and grab yourself the nearest detector. Go over the area you lost it in a grid search pattern and listen for high pitch sounds. Check these out and you’re on your way in attempting to find it yourself. If there’s anyone on here around the Cork area they’ll help I’m sure, unfortunately I’m up here close to the ‘real capital’. Let’s know how you get on and post a pic when it’s found.

Thanks a lot zerovis and gisago51, appreciate the feedback. The lads in the tool hire place seemed very convincing saying it wouldnt pick up precious metals but will definitely give it a go so if ye think there's a chance! Yes hopefully someone around Cork might be able to help. Ill definitely put up a pic in the meantime if I find it. Fingers crossed!
Cheers, Mark.

Put the coil (search head of detector) as close to the ground (with out touching) if it s a garrett machine. Lower sensitivity. If the hire place says it cant pick up precious metal, then it s not a metal detector

A lady lost her engagement ring on a beach and it was lost for 2-3 months and even after all that time a lad from here found it and returned it to the happy owner. Hope you find it or someone gives you a hand from here. I am too far away from west cork unfortunately. Best of luck and hope it turns up.

mark, keep this live so that it’s not forgotten here as the ring has sentimental value for you. Someone local on here will surely be in touch soon. Also, when this social distancing improves, your area will be more accessible and others on the forum would assist. Stay in touch here and keep the forum in the loop. Some members today are helping to find a different ring and what helps is a rough idea of where it was lost. The detectorist must walk by the ring to find it so best information is vital. Stay positive and stay well.

Thanks Gisago5. I'll keep an eye on the thread. I actually rented a detector and searched there myself the other day but no luck. I dont know if I was using it properly or if the setting was accurate for detecting platinum but I tried. The ring was lost on Long Strand near Rosscarbery so if anyone is around that area and has another idea for looking and could try I'd really appreciate it.
Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark, We had the same thing happen us recently and we have just found the rings thanks to a member on here.
We also hired a detector and went over the area they were found in at least 10 times but the hired one never picked them up. I would recommend getting someone with the right equipment and skills involved.
Regards,
Jenny

Mark, good to keep us in the loop. That area, Roscarberry Strand, are you able to focus in on an approximate area of the strand or is the search area really big?? To have the best chance of finding the ring the detectorist needs to move the detector through the area of the lost item. It’s part of the puzzle to give the best information you can and to narrow the search area. Narrow the location may mean better use of time in finding it and makes sense of any long trips.
