Hi there,
New to this forum but previously a member of the Facebook page. I donโt do Facebook anymore but good to have a forum to check laws etc before heading out. Iโve a Garrett & pinpointer and have only been out a few times. A bit scared to use it tbh in case Iโm breaking the law. Kept mostly to beaches. Havenโt found anything other than rubbish so far! Great fun though and my niece and nephew came out with me last week for a bit of panning as well. Iโd love to take them treasure hunting for coins but weโll stick to beaches until the laws change.
Any tips would be great!
Audrey

Hi Audrey Welcome to the forum..
Detecting beaches is fine and within the law, some beaches do have archaeological sites close to them.. so in the faq section of this forum you can find a map to id these areas.. You can detect most anywhere provided you have the landowners permission.. and again provided there are no red or blue dots on your map for the location your in. Most people who approach you will just be curious.. but its rare to have mr know it all start barking the law to you.. again once your within the law and away from the dots your fine.. just carry on or move on and ignore them.. Its a great hobby, enjoy..

Welcome to the forum! The Ministers office seem to think its fine to enjoy metal in this letter as long as you are detecting within the law. {picture / quote} Makes it more clear in this dail questions and answers. {picture / quote} Take note of this. {picture / quote} I'm printing off some pages to take with me next time I'm out detecting, a few local maps from the archaeology site, and a few quotes from various ministers, etc. Do you have any dates for the above quotes? I think it would be better if I had a reference. The second one already has a date on it.
I include a link to the 1987 statute (for printing) but the wording (as usual) is negative and legalese, only saying what you can't do, then piling on the threats.
