Hi all, new member here, my name is Rory. Got interested from YouTube, I like the look of beach detecting and actually found the forum in the comments of a YouTube video of a guy on a beach in north Dublin. Haven't bought a machine yet still researching, so any tips would be welcome.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.
You are better off reading the pinned topics to start off and check the faq that way you will already have a lot of the answers you require.
It will come down to where you want to detect and what you want to spend and to some degree what you intend to look for or expect to find. Just having a few local beaches within reach is not going to fill your needs for long soon you will be thinking about permission on farmland.
That might not be easy to get unless you know somebody with land back to the beach as with all beaches each time the tide changes it's like going to the beach for the first time as the sands shift with the tide.
As I say best to read the pinned topics then ask your questions and we will try fill in the blanks as best we can.

Thanks for the welcome. I see a lot of people recommending the Garrett 250 but also see it's not good for wet sand. What's the reason for this?
I do a bit of beach and coast combing already, I kayak close to the coast and search places that are rarely visited. This is obviously just for stuff washed up on the surface. I'd like to add a detector to this. On the west coast I often land on small beaches and spots that have no access or no easy access from land. I'd also like to comb the popular beaches so will need a machine that can do well in wet and dry sand.
