Hi All, delighted to find and be part of this group ,my story , is I am originally from Mayo, since I was a kid , I wanted to get into metal detecting , I bought a Garrett Ace 250 bundle pack a few years ago, it came with 2 coils , headphones and a back pack , I used it a few times on our own land in Mayo , I then bought a Garret Carrot pinpointer and a little mini spade which made it so much easier and fun, but they have all been in the garage unused for the past couple of years. I got the dreaded covid over the Christmas and found myself watching hours and hours of youtube metal detecting videos , which revived my interest in the hobby , the guys in the USA and the UK have a great metal detecting community , so for me this group is the way to go , looking forward to talking to you like minded folks about what options we have for metal detecting here in Ireland. By the way I have just order a couple of tools from George lesch in predator tools , I will let yee know how I get on with duty etc having them deliver through my US addresspal ..

Welcome along to the forum!! Plenty of fields around Navan to potentially dig, once you get the permission from landowner and theres no red or blue dots in the vicintity to avoid archaeology sites.
Theres an interactive map in the FAQ which helps to avoid any law being broken.
Its addictive, I have spent many hours looking at fields noticed on a drive and learning about what was discovered there. But the fields of any use to me are the ones with no dots, so whistfully wonder who owns them and hope to see a tractor there someday to enqure!
Anyway, enjoy the great hobby and let us know how you get on and if you have any questions, a helpful bunch of lads here!
Cheers! Alan

No such permits exist as it is not illegal to detect in parks. It's like asking for a permit to fly a kite....

No such permits exist as it is not illegal to detect in parks. It's like asking for a permit to fly a kite.... when I started detecting metal here in the county. a friend of mine suggested that I go to the police in every village and town and tell him I was detecting metal, in playgrounds or in parks. they recorded my data and whatever was civilian calling, my hobby was related. they said they knew about it and did not come out to harass it... It's not neccessary . however, it can be quite useful.
