Hello there, I have just joined/registered and I am interested in metal detecting as a hobby, but I have no idea what machine to buy (needs to be waterproof though for Beach combing), I'd like a pretty reliable and descent one that wont let me down...any/all recommendations welcome. thanks for your help.

Hi Jason71. Welcome aboard. What detector you want to get depends on your budget. If you can afford to buy an Equinox 800, that model is equally at home on the beach as it is on land. Have a look here... www.metaldetectorsalesni.com

Thanks Paddyspurs, and thanks for accepting me on this forum, I think the Equinox 800 is a little outta my price range but its definitely something to work towards, I was thinking of a cheaper starter model that's reliable and waterproof I have seen Garrett deals with the pointer as well for about half that price are the Garrett models any good?

Hi Jason, you could go for a minelab vanquish either.
What part of Meath are you in, I'm in Ashbourne.

Welcome along Jason! The Simplex is waterproof and good on beach and field. Not too expensive really. Sure let us know what you decide on! Think some of the Quest machines get a good write up too.
