I’m just getting started and had bought a cheapish detector to start with for €120. It’s not good, has a mind of it’s own. It will detect nothing except fresh air. It goes beeping mad but no target. Even when I place a coin or keys under it it will beep but only if I hold the machine steady over them for a few seconds. And when I try again I’m met with silence. Anyway, I’m sending it back to Amazon.
Can I ask yer opinion on what is a good machine to start off with. I saw a Minelab Vanquish 340 on eBay for €248 (new from a dealer) but the same machine on Amazon is about €100 dearer. Anyone have insight to this? I only want to spend €250ish as a novice. If anyone has another suggestion of a detector let me know please or if someone is selling a machine down south around Cork then I’d appreciate that too…
Thanks, CHC

You would be better off buying a used/second hand detector from someone here on the forum than a piece of junk from China sold through Amazon. Have a look at the metal detectors for sale section or put an ad up saying that your looking for something to use and the members will sort you out. Best of luck 🤞

If you can get hold of a minelab for 250 euro, then buy it. Used x terra 705? Its a good machine that costs about 700 new, vanquish is probably almost a better option. Quest machines are also getting good reviews.
