Hi, on Friday afternoon 18 Sept, I was playing with my grandchildren on the green on our estate in Castleknock Dublin 15 when I felt my gold earring (they are pierced earrings) drop off. I managed to catch the back but not the earring itself. I immediately marked the spot where I was standing when it happened and spent all the afternoon and evening on my hands and knees searching through the grass for it. They were the last present from my husband who took his own life exactly 10 years ago to the day, so the sentimental value and heartache is huge. I was ready to hire a metal detector on Saturday morning, one that they use for searching for drains etc on a building site, but it was no good, it didn't register the earring I had still, so it was unlikely to register the missing one. I know where it should be in the grass and I would appreciate it if one of your members would help me to find it. I am devastated to lose it and the day that was in it has made it all so painful and sad. Please, please, help me find my earring. Many thanks, Gaye.

Gaye, So sorry to hear of this. Someone will be along on the forum shortly and I am certain you will have lots of volunteers to assist you. I'm too far outside Dublin to assist. I would advise you register on the forum. That way people here can contact you privately with phone numbers etc

No luck I am afraid, the area is full of targets which I didnet want to start digging as its a Green in front of Houses , also the earring does not register at all well , even the pin pointer had difficulty (we uses the second of the pair to test) if anyone has a machine with a very small coil that works well on very small targets it might be worth a shot Might give it another go with another machine

Hi Gabbie, Don't think you are fully signed up as can't message you. Stick up an email address or phone number. I'm not too far away, can always give it a shot ๐

Hi Just wondering if the earring was ever found? Iโm in cork but have family in castlelnock that I often visit. I also have a small sniper coil that may help. So if Iโm back there again soon I might be able to help? Donโt know when that might be though with everything going on..๐ Best of luck. D

Hey Detec, Don't think Gabbie was too pushed about it. She never signed up properly and didn't respond to my last message. If it was on an estate green it could have been eaten by the council lawnmowers at this stage.

Hi all, I have to say she was very upset at the loss,as it was a gift from her late husband , and would welcome any help in finding it , I do agree that the lawn mower may have killed it by now , and that fact that the a pinpointed and a small pulse induction unit could not even pick up the second of the pair does not bode well, if you are are in Dublin and would like to try I will ask if i can pass on her number

Hi lads, the story is heartbreaking. I live within 5 km of Castleknock. I use a AT Pro and would like to have a go. Zerovis, could you ask the op if it's alright to pm me her number and I'll take it from there. Cheers

Hi Lads, Im in Finglas just safe enough re the 5KM. Currently using a Garrett Ace 400i and a At Pro Ponter, i can team up with Paulie if that helps. Two Units better than 1 :-)

Hi lads , I will get in contact and ask her to check back here ,then you can message directly , as I said the remaining earring, does not show up in the pin-pointer , I did get some signals but did not dig them it appears to be a high trash site, and its under council control and used by the local football teams, no sense in getting bad press, the area of search is well marked and anything outside a 2m radius is probably a waste of time, so i think that one at a time is the only viable way , also the counccil have been over the site with the mower, Best of luck

Thanks, I've around 600 hours experience with my detector and use a Garrett carrot pin pointer. I'll put fresh batteries in both and use the hack with the pin pointer. I'll know within 5 minutes if I can find it. Cheers
