Hi everyone,
Saw this on the local radio's facebook page....
A recently married couple were visiting Youghal last week and the husband lost his wedding ring at on the beach. Unfortunately they couldn't find it and had to leave because they were on holiday and had to catch our flight back to Germany. The inscription on it says "Sabine & Martin 21.06.2019".
If anyone finds it please contact the station on 024 91199 or 92288."
Anyone nearby to give a hand? Since I'm looking to get into MD myself, I can help if anyone had a spare detector
Kev

Good morning kevk79, and just looked back to when you came on board in early August. Did you buy a detector? I’m in Dublin so I can’t make it to there to help as soon as needed. There’s bound to be someone down that way on the forum can link up to assist. What’s important to anyone detecting is the approximate if not more detailed location where they think it was lost so they can concentrate on that area. So, continue to shout out on this forum.Best of luck in getting started, answer someone’s post and reference your location, arrange a meet up and take it from there. Once you get the first find it drives you on. The good finds are there go ahead and find them.

Hi gisago51,
Thanks for getting back. Unfortunately i don't have my own detector as of yet. I'm still looking in to which one would suit me best. I know there are different detectors types that work better on certain types of ground (sand, soil etc) Seen as i live near the beach, a detector for that type of ground would probably be best for me, but as i am also a beekeeper, i know a few farmers that i can ask to see if i can go on to their land.
I know there are a few people on the forum that are in my area so im hoping that they can help out with this wedding ring. As my wife lost her engagement only about 3 weeks ago her self, i know what its like to lose something like that, thankfully we managed to find it about a 10 days later in a shopping bag and i would love to be able to help this person and find the ring for her plus it would be great PR for metal detecting!
Regards
Kevin

Meant to say as well, the local radio have been in contact and put me in touch with the lady. She has emailed me a picture of where she believes they lost the ring which narrows the search area down considerably as the beach is about 5km long! haha

Hi Kev. Not in the Youghal area myself so won't be able to help with the search, but if you're thinking of getting a machine that can be used on beach and farmland, have a look at the "Detectors for Sale and Wanted" section. There's an XP Deus Lite and a Minelab Explorer II for sale. Both very good machines (the XP Deus would be a top machine). The Garrett range and some others don't do well on wet sand but would be fine on the dry sand areas.

I emailed her too,she sent the picture but it is very hard to pinpoint its location exactly and her circle on the pic is very big.I felt she was not too keen on pinpointing the spot better.also no info on was the tide in at the time or had they gone out far etc.very poor info.I might give it a bash when free but it doesn't look promising.

Hi doc, That's great that you have been in contact with her and if true, its a shame that she isn't to keen to give better/more detailed information. I'm sure if you do give it a go, you will do your best. Best of luck if you do decide to give it a go

I now have some idea to begin a bit of research to see which MD best suits me (and my pocket! haha)

Hi SypsNys,
I don't have a metal detector at the moment so i can't even look for the ring! haha but yes, any help is appreciated. The lady actually got back to me this evening saying that she gave me the wrong place to look and gave me the actual place she says they lost the ring with some directions on where to look. I'm not sure if she has been in contact with doc as well

Seems to me that she doesn't seem to trust that it will be returned if found. Why else would she be evasive answering questions and not be honest about where it was lost 1st time. Maybe a genuine mistake or language difficulty but I think it would be a waste of time unless your planning a hunt on the beach anyway.

When she emailed me back she apologised as she only realised her mistake is pointing out where she lost the ring plus she game me fairly decent directions and since i know that beach quiet well, i have a good idea where to start. Granted, it will still be a big area to search but if ya don't buy a ticket, you wont win the raffle! haha Ah no, seriously, i feel it's worth a try at least, if its found, fantastic, if not, then at least we tried

yes, its a fantastic ending. The lady emailed me as well to say that she actually put up an ad on lost.ie (possibly a place to advertise some MD'ing for people who lost rings??) and someone contacted her to say that they found it. She was very thankful to everyone who was willing to go and try and find it. So all is well that ends well. Delighted for her

Kev79, did they confirm, after notification of it being found, that it was actually lost in the sand and was it found by a detectorist?
